J. Calnan & Associates Aligns with Energy-Efficiency Technology Leader Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions
1/29/2008, Quincy, MA --
J. Calnan & Associates, Inc., one of New England’s leading construction management firms specializing in world-class preconstruction services and challenging construction projects, recently completed the new Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions’ (the new entity formed by Philips’ acquisition of Color Kinetics), 50,000 square-foot cutting-edge corporate headquarters in Burlington, MA in collaboration with the Watertown-based architect, Sasaki Associates and lighting design by Focus Lighting of New York.
The new facility incorporates many unique features designed to showcase both existing and futuristic applications of LED lighting. The visually striking showroom is entirely lit by LED sources and designed to mimic various market applications. The conference rooms and common spaces incorporate both color and white LED lighting systems. Dramatic effects such as Dynamic “portal” passageways lined by 24,350 individually controlled LED nodes. The workstation areas have Colorful LED lighting throughout and the exterior has LED accents with a color-changing sign that create visibility from Route 128. A state-of-the-art workshop, optics lab and machine shop for product design and testing. A commemorative wall of history displaying LED product innovations through the years and prominent, projected images of the company’s many notable lighting installations.
In addition to these unique touches, the entire space was designed to meet high standards of environmental design. This includes the use of energy-efficient LED lighting wherever possible and no incandescent bulbs were used in this project.
“The future will bring a change in energy-efficient lighting options. Thus, building a facility that provides a highly efficient, long lasting, environmentally friendly, and digital source of illumination, is something we can take pride in being associated with,” states Jay Calnan, president.
